This was the only picture I managed to get of Field Day today due to the chaos that ensued! With that being said, today is a 2 question day.
I have realized that many teachers have polarized feelings about this day every year. Do you love it or hate it?
How does Field Day work at your school? At my current placement, teachers do not participate in Field Day and instead get the time for prep. At my previous school, teachers dressed down to play with the kids. I kind of missed that piece!
Anyways, I would love to hear your thoughts! I always love joining these link up parties and connecting with all of you!
I teach college and used to teach high school but Field Day sounds amazing! I wish I had that!

I dread field day on the days leading up to it, but then I always have fun when the time arrives! At my school, classroom teachers get prep time, while ESL, Reading, Sped, and Specials teachers work the rotations.
ReplyDeleteI am with ya! The only downfall is that the kids can NOT focus on anything before/after the field day. But it's great seeing them so excited. It's contagious! :)
DeleteWhat is field day? We have a half day at the end of every term that we all go outside and have tabloid sports (in winter they are indoor rotations). The teachers all take a station with their buddy, and the kids rotate round. The older kids look after the younger ones.

That sounds pretty similar to Field Day! Every school kind of does it differently, but typically it's a day at the end of the year where we set up all kinds of relay races, obstacle courses, games, etc on the field and the kids get to rotate through all of the different activities. Our school gives out popsicles at the end also.

Our teachers get to play at Field Day with the kids. The level of interaction depends on the teacher. I LOVE field day...always have. Teachers are allowed to wear shorts (yay!). And since our special area teachers are running stations all day, we don't have specials. Which means our principal gives us permission to watch a movie. This year, my team did a rotation where we made bread and butter. Then we all went into my room and watched a movie. We had lunch, field day, and then ate our homemade bread and butter before we went home. Great day!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like fun! I am switching schools next year and I'm hoping it's more interactive! I love getting to just play and have fun with the kids. Plus, who doesn't love a little healthy competition!? :)
